Under Louis XIV's reign, Jean-Baptiste Colbert is very proud of the French fashion industry. He would argue "Fashion is to France what the gold mines of Peru are to Spain".
Under Louis XVI, the Kingdom is still very concerned by Fashion and Queen Marie Antoinette is a great ambassador of the french fashion supremacy and art de vivre.
Rose Bertin is her dressmaker and adviser in style. She runs the "Minister of Fashion". Often considered as the first designer in the history, she brought haute couture outside of Versailles and popularized fashion. And had a real influence on fashion trends of the century.
She also inspired Sofia Coppola in her movie Marie Antoinette with a great focus on fashion and style.

On Dazed Digital, the digital version of Dazed and Confused, a page is dedicated to fashion gifs. A real gift (easy..) for those who had not the chance to attend the shows of past fashion weeks. Here is the page for Paris S/S 14.
A quick analysis of the main artistic direction of the designers, illustrated in a quick colorful gif. A smart and pretty idea. Don't stay too long on the page though, your eyes may suffer.

Chilly Gonzales is both sweet and strong. Quite like a Chilly con Carne one might add.
His music won't leave anyone insensitive even with no classical background.
Below a link to download his recent Solo Piano concert from Munich.

In the early 60es the british designer Mary Quant creates a tiny revolution with her mini skirt. A few years later, André Courrèges joins her in the mini style with a progressive futuristic style. He has an education in both fashion design and construction engineering and his lines are often compared to the architecture of Le Corbusier.

Once upon a time in NY there was a lovely girl who had just graduated from art school. Back in her lovely home, she was trying to deal with the uncertainty of life.
The moment when the line is blurred and no one but you can decide what will happen next. Especially when you feel like becoming an Artist in 2010 when the economy is down and the best compromise you can find is getting a gloomy side job.
Usually movies make us dream and reality sucks. Here it's the opposite. Lena Dunham directed, wrote and played in Tiny Furniture. A real fresh start auguring well for this young girl.

Have a closer look at this wonderful drawing by Vertès. Here is the first fragrance by Elsa Schiaparelli in 1937, which bottle was in the shape of the chest of Mae West. A sex symbol american actress back then.
You can quickly guess who got inspired as well by this chest. Shocking, no ?

Cool tacos + great cocktails + super friendly barman / barmaid = Candelaria.
You enter la Candelaria by a Mexican typical small bar, una "taqueria", push a colored door and arrive on a hidden bar. Just like during the prohibition in the US ? Yes. To be precise, a speakeasy ? Yes, congrats. You won the right to have a super night in Candelaria. Go early, the place is quite small and people from all over the worl gather to taste their amazing cocktails.
My favorite is the "Guêpe Verte". You'll see, it's good for your health, there is a slice of cucumber.
